Year of the Fifth Election

Israel and Lebanon sign the maritime border agreement, and in the fifth election in under four years Netanyahu returns to power.

  1. After the Knesset dissolves, Yair Lapid takes office as prime minister under the rotation agreement.
  2. US President Joe Biden visits Israel and signs the "Jerusalem Declaration" with Prime Minister Lapid.
  3. Israel and Lebanon, with US mediation, sign an agreement delineating the maritime border between them.
  4. In the elections to the Twenty-fifth Knesset, a Likud-led bloc wins a majority, and Netanyahu forms a government that is sworn in on 29 December.
