Netta Barzilai wins the Eurovision Song Contest with "Toy" and brings the contest to Israel.

  1. Netta Barzilai wins first place at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with the song "Toy" – Israel's fourth victory in the contest.
  2. The US Embassy opens in Jerusalem, on the seventieth anniversary of the declaration of the state according to the Gregorian calendar. On the same day, some sixty Palestinians are killed by IDF fire during demonstrations and clashes along the Gaza Strip border fence.
  3. The Knesset passes Basic Law: Israel – The Nation-State of the Jewish People.
