The State Turns Sixty

Israel celebrates sixty years of independence, in a year when Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev come home in coffins.

  1. Israel marks sixty years since its founding with Independence Day celebrations across the country.
  2. US President George W. Bush addresses the Knesset plenum on the occasion of the state's sixtieth anniversary.
  3. The bodies of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev are returned to Israel in a prisoner exchange with Hezbollah.
  4. After years of rocket fire on the south, the IDF launches Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip.
