Defensive Shield

After the Passover massacre at the Park Hotel in Netanya, the IDF launches Operation Defensive Shield.

  1. In a suicide bombing at the Passover Seder in the Park Hotel in Netanya, thirty people were murdered.
  2. Following a broad call-up of reservists, the IDF launched Operation Defensive Shield in the cities of the West Bank; thirty IDF soldiers fell in the operation and hundreds of Palestinians were killed.
  3. Sarit Hadad represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tallinn with the song "Light a Candle".
  4. Construction began on the separation barrier (the seam-line obstacle) in the West Bank, intended according to Israel to stop the infiltration of terrorists; the route of the barrier is disputed.
