Operation Moses
In a secret operation, thousands of Jews from Ethiopia, who had walked on foot to refugee camps in Sudan, were flown to the Land of Israel.
- The elections to the Eleventh Knesset end without a decisive result: the Alignment wins forty-four seats and the Likud forty-one.
- A national unity government with a rotation agreement is sworn in, with Shimon Peres serving first as prime minister.
- Operation Moses begins: a secret airlift from Sudan, via Brussels, brings thousands of Jews from Ethiopia to Israel (by estimates, between some six and eight thousand).
