A First Peace

Israel and Egypt signed a peace treaty in Washington, the first between Israel and an Arab state.

  1. Begin and Sadat sign the Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty on the White House lawn.
  2. Jerusalem hosts the Eurovision Song Contest, and Gali Atari and Milk and Honey win again for Israel with "Hallelujah".
  3. Israel returns the city of El-Arish to Egypt, the first stage of the withdrawal from Sinai.
