Yom Kippur

On Yom Kippur, Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack, and a hard war claimed the lives of more than two thousand five hundred soldiers.

  2. At two in the afternoon on Yom Kippur, Egypt and Syria launch a surprise attack in Sinai and on the Golan Heights.
  3. IDF forces cross the Suez Canal and carry the fighting to its west bank.
  4. David Ben-Gurion, founder of the state and its first prime minister, dies at the age of eighty-seven.
