- In an air battle west of the Canal, Operation Rimon 20, Israeli Air Force pilots shoot down five MiG fighters flown by Soviet pilots.
- A ceasefire between Israel and Egypt takes effect, ending the War of Attrition.
- Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser dies of a heart attack and is succeeded by Anwar Sadat.
