Six Days in Jerusalem

In the Six-Day War Israel changed the face of the Middle East, and paratroopers reached the Western Wall.

  1. At the Israel Song Festival, Shuli Natan performs Naomi Shemer's "Jerusalem of Gold" for the first time.
  2. The Israeli Air Force launches Operation Moked (Operation Focus), destroying most of the Egyptian Air Force's aircraft on the ground, and so the Six-Day War begins.
  3. The Paratroopers Brigade, commanded by Motta Gur, captures the Old City and reaches the Western Wall and the Temple Mount.
  4. The destroyer INS Eilat is sunk by Egyptian missiles off Port Said, and dozens of its crew are killed.
