A Home for the Knesset, a Nobel for Agnon

The Knesset building was inaugurated in Jerusalem, and S. Y. Agnon won the Nobel Prize in Literature.

  1. Instructional Television begins broadcasting, the start of television broadcasts in Israel.
  2. The Knesset building at Givat Ram in Jerusalem is inaugurated.
  3. The military government over Israel's Arab citizens, in place since 1948, is abolished.
  4. S. Y. Agnon receives the Nobel Prize in Literature in Stockholm, together with the poet Nelly Sachs.
