The Sinai Campaign
In the Sinai Campaign (Operation Kadesh) the IDF captured the Sinai Peninsula within a few days.
- The founding of Tel Aviv University is announced.
- The Sinai Campaign (Operation Kadesh) opens with a paratroop drop near the Mitla Pass in Sinai.
- In Kafr Qasim, Border Police officers shoot dead dozens of the village's residents, among them women and children, who were returning from work unaware of a curfew that had been brought forward; eight members of the unit were later convicted of murder.
- The IDF captures Sharm el-Sheikh at the southern tip of Sinai, and the fighting ends.
