The Sharett Year
Moshe Sharett became Israel's second prime minister, in a period of security tension and the building of state institutions.
- Moshe Sharett presents his government to the Knesset and becomes Israel's second prime minister.
- In the Ma'ale Akrabim massacre, passengers are murdered on a bus traveling from Eilat to Tel Aviv.
- A railway station opens in north Tel Aviv; it will later be named "Tel Aviv – Savidor Center".
- The Bank of Israel Law comes into force, and David Horowitz is appointed the first governor.
